A collaboration between Glenn Clark and Bolton Taylor, Jamaican - American Taxi, Inc was established in November 2000.
Bolton
Taylor, the driver has driven taxis for the last twelve (12) years.
Being a nationalized Jamaican he knows all the heaviest traveled
tourist spots and the spots that are a little less-traveled. Glenn Clark, an American, has traveled extensively in Jamaica, making up to three or four trips a year to the island. Glenn can prepare a tour itinerary for an individual or a group traveling to Jamaica. He can also secure a larger tour bus, with a guide for tour groups. This is a service he routinely provides for Project JAMAD, a community-based group in Madison, Wisconsin. |

The following are some interesting attractions that are available on day trips from Negril:
Negril Lighthouse - On the western-most point of the island is a beautiful old lighthouse built in 1894. It was powered by kerosene until 1956 when they switched over to acetylene. In 1985, they switched the power source over to solar energy. It flashes every 2 seconds through a prism made in Paris. You can get them to take you for a tour inside. There are 100 stairs to the top for a great view.
West End Drive - Also, just a drive down the west end road is nice as well. The road follows the coast around the tip. There are cliffs over there and you can stop & get out for pictures. Many restaurants & bars to stop at.
Mayfield Water Falls - A series of mini-waterfalls and numerous pools for swimming, diving, "jacuzzi" action. It is very much a wet and active tour. You walk through the water to the highest of the falls, which drops about 50 ft.
SOUTH COAST:
Appleton Rum Factory - In St. Elizabeth. This is fun. They have an interesting tour that shows the 200 year old “stills” that they still use today. And of course, samples of their rums for tasting & for sale!
Y.S. Falls - In St. Elizabeth, near the town of Black River. This is a really beautiful spot with 120-foot falls. You can swim there; and for an additional few bucks, you can go on a 45 minute tubing excursion down the YS River starting at the bottom of the falls and ending up further downstream where the tour guides will pick you up.
Treasure Beach - You can take a nice drive down the south coast to Treasure Beach, which has some public beaches and is a much more laid back place than Negril. The area’s natural beauty and tranquility has not yet been spoiled like some of the areas closer to Negril.
OCHO RIOS:
This is where many of the cruise ships stop, so there are lots of things to do here as well.
Discovery Bay - Discovery Bay is on the way to Ocho Rios. This is the place where Columbus is supposed to have landed in Jamaica. There is a nice Columbus Park nearby with buildings from the Spanish colonial period.
Dunn’s River Falls - This is kind of the “definitive” Jamaican attraction -- one that Jamaica is most famous for. From the beach you can climb the falls some 600 feet up. Even if you do not climb the falls it is still beautiful. But this attraction is generally more crowded than YS Falls or Mayfield Falls.
Fern Gully - A former river bed, it is possible to walk three miles through the valley which is like a jungle with magnificent ferns (600 types) and hardwood trees.
Plantations - Several working plantations still exist in the area, which produce coconuts, bananas and citrus fruits. Many of them have tours of their estates.
Rose Hall Great House - There is a beautiful old mansion right overlooking Montego Bay. It is the house of the famous "White Witch of Rose Hall". She was an English woman in the 1800s that killed at least two of her husbands and many of her slave lovers. Beautiful House. The tour is popular because supposedly the house is haunted, and they play that up on the tour.
Hungry?
Some Interesting Places to Eat in Negril: (If you want to get away from the generic “all-inclusive” hotel meals)
Rick’s Café - This is the ultimate famous tourist/spring break restaurant along the west end of Negril. It has cliff divers, and the most gorgeous sunsets.
Sweet Spice - Nice authentic restaurant in Negril. Has great food and a large array of native juices & drinks. We always eat here at least one night out of a stay.
Juicey “J’s” - Very small & quaint & traditional. Little ambience, but good breakfasts & good food.
Ossie’s Restaurant - The word “restaurant” is used loosely here. It is really a roadside stand along the Norman Manley road across from the resorts. But you can go in and sit down at one of the two tables. It has amazing fish. If you like fish at all, try the traditional Jamaican Escovitch Fish. (Snapper with hot vinegar & veggies).

"Let us show you the beauty of Jamaica's countryside!"
